ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE PAINTING

"Green" Painting

With today's heightened concern over toxic chemicals and earth-friendly practices, we’re proud to report that we are doing everything recommended by our professional associations, and then some, to be the North Bay’s most "Green"" painter.

Our proactive “green painting” strategies include following the Painting and Decorator Contractors of Americas’ “Project Green” 10-point guidelines:

The PDCA's Project Green Brush Tips For Painting Contractors

  1. Adopt Green Policies within your business - field and office.
  2. Recycle waste paper from your office and use recycled office paper products.
  3. Involve and train your employees.
  4. Estimate Correctly - Buy the right amount of materials.
  5. Learn about environment friendly paints from your paint vendor.
  6. Plan your project to incorporate Environment Friendly Methods and Materials.
  7. Use approved protection measures to protect adjacent surfaces and collect preparation debris. Dispose of as regulated in your State or by the EPA.
  8. Use up, recycle, or dry out left over paints. Empty paint containers completely and dry out prior to proper disposal.
  9. Look for ways to conserve water use during preparation and tool cleanup.
  10. Store left over paints and primers properly.

Ross: Leading the Green Charge with PDCA

PDCA is helping to lead the charge to protect the earth and safe guard the environment. As a member. Ross supports this effort whole-heartedly.

We actively promote the use of environmentally friendly project planning, surface preparation, proper painting and cleanup procedures, supporting the development and use of new environmentally safer paints and coatings where this material use actually reduces pollution, providing testimony to the Environmental Protection Agency and promotion of proper disposal of waste and leftover paint and supplies.

Specifically, among other PDCA endorsed practices, at Ross Painting we:

  • Recycle thinners through a licensed, EPA-approved vendor
  • Encourage clients to use water based products in place of other bases
  • Minimize the use of paper in our office and recycle
  • Close or cover paint containers as much as possible to minimize evaporation
  • Use HEPA vacuums for cleaning sites and attach them to sanders when possible

Neither Ross nor the PDCA is new to the promulgation of what are, these days, referred to as 'green' ways of doing business. Ross, as a PDCA member, has been actively involved with educating the painting and decorating contracting industry about environment friendly topics since the late 1980s.

Most importantly, since “green” practices continue to evolve, everyone at Ross Painting is committed to continually updating our knowledge about what we can do, to contract and paint in the most environmentally friendly ways possible.

And, to further reduce our carbon footprint, we just invested in an energy efficient "Smart Car" for Dan Ross, the company President.
